The software available (DOS version of JNOS) supports any of the modems used by the FEP box and if the conversion details are followed, the pinouts are the same.
The only possible issue is that the SCC chips are clocked at exactly 6MHz which does not make a very good value for baud rate generation at 9600bps. The track that takes the clock to the SCC chips has been identified but cutting the track and injecting 6.144 MHz (which does divide down to 9k6) has not been tested.

The modifications that have been developed have been to minimise the impact on the original board and to make the addons as portable as possible (so if a board failed another could be quickly substituted). This has resulted in a few track cuts and wire mods to the 50 way connector so that everything to the modem interface goes via this point.
